"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?" - Numbers 23:19 Today, let's take a moment to step back and truly reflect on the immense and awe-inspiring love of God. Our focal point for this devotion comes from Numbers 23:19, where Balaam responds to Balak, the king of Moab. After Balak's repeated attempts to have Balaam curse Israel, Balaam instead declares, "God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?" This profound statement highlights that God's plans and blessings cannot be altered by human desires. Originally spoken in the context of Old Testament Israel, this truth remains equally valid today for all who are indwelt by the Spirit of God, making them the contemporary Israel of God. Reflecting on our human existence, if we consider the vast span of history and creation, our own significance seems minimal. From the origins of creation billions of years ago, through the emergence of human consciousness, to the pivotal moment when the Son of God ushered in a New Covenant, and onto today, our brief presence barely registers on the vast timeline of the universe. Beyond our planet, the scope widens further, diminishing our significance as we contemplate the solar system, our galaxy, and the expansive universe, with its myriad galaxies and potentially multiple dimensions. In the face of such immensity, verses like Job 38:4-7 challenge us: "Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?" These words from God challenge our understanding and place in creation, emphasizing our limited grasp of the divine scale. Isaiah 55:8-9 further expands on this, stating, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." This declaration from God underlines the vast difference between divine and human perspectives. The psalmist, in Psalm 8:3-4, echoes this sentiment of wonder and humility: "When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?" And again in Psalm 103:11-12, the mercy of God is described as being as vast as the heavens above the earth, a testament to the boundless nature of His grace and forgiveness. When considering our relative insignificance, the fact that God chooses to love and interact with us is profoundly moving. This is beautifully captured in John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." The love of God is further exemplified in 1 John 4:9-10: "In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins." Ephesians 1:4-5 tells us that God chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight, having predestined us to be adopted as His children through Jesus Christ, according to His pleasure and will. This divine choice, made from the beginning of time, emphasizes just how cherished we are, despite our cosmic smallness. Understanding the immense love that God has for us, despite our human limitations, should inspire daily gratitude and a profound appreciation for the incredible gift of life and opportunity He has given us. If you find yourself among the called, cherish this gift. Love your birthright and hold it in high esteem, for there is truly nothing greater that could ever be bestowed upon you in this seemingly insignificant existence. Prayer Heavenly Father, We come before you today with a profound sense of awe. It is beyond our comprehension how we are even given the opportunity to be with you. As we consider the vast distance between where we are and where you reside, we can't help but feel inadequate and insignificant. Yet, Father, you have laid out before each and every one of us a bridge to your presence, offering us the chance to be with you and your Son, Jesus. This is a mystery too great for us to fully understand, but for this, we are deeply thankful. The words "thank you" seem so inadequate to express our gratitude for the immense gift you have given us. We ask, Lord, that you grant us the wisdom to never take this for granted. May we always be aware of the magnitude of your grace and the depth of your love. Let us continually feel and express the gratitude that is appropriate for such an extraordinary gift. In your all-knowing, all-encompassing name, we pray. Amen. 🌟 Enjoyed this read? The Mission: In these devotionals, I seek not to preach, but to share a journey of faith, guided by God's wisdom. My aim is not to impart my own wisdom, but to serve as a conduit for the divine messages that resonate through the scriptures. The Process: Prayerful Beginnings: Each day starts with a prayer, an open-hearted conversation with God, seeking guidance on the message to be shared. Scripture Selection: Since there is no bad verse in the Bible, a verse of scripture is randomly chosen. Or if I feel a heavy drawing to a specific topic I search the Word for the appropriate verse that deals with that topic. Contextual Understanding: I delve into the rich background of the chosen verse, exploring who spoke these words, to whom they were addressed, and what was the underlying message. This contextual study is deepened by examining why the message was delivered, uncovering the intent and the circumstances that inspired these words. Equally important is how the message was communicated, whether through parables, direct teachings, or poetic expressions, revealing the method behind the scripture's enduring impact. This comprehensive exploration helps in grasping the broader meaning, connecting us more deeply with the divine wisdom embedded in each verse. Reflective Mediation: Armed with knowledge and guided by prayer, I reflect on the verse. This reflection is not just an intellectual exercise but a spiritual experience, seeking to understand how this verse speaks to different hearts in different ways. Diverse Messages: The devotionals are crafted to resonate with a wide array of believers - from those new to faith to those who have walked with God for years. Each message is intended to touch hearts, whether as a gentle reminder, a spark of realization, or a comforting assurance. Humble Servitude: Above all, I recognize that these messages are not of my own making. I am but a mere instrument in God's hands, tasked with documenting and sharing His word. My role is that of a documentarian, capturing the divine insights revealed through me. The Belief: "If you have ears, you will hear; if you have eyes, you will see." These words of Jesus Christ guide these devotionals. I understand that not all messages are for all moments, but each is crafted with the hope that it will find those who need it most at the right time. Growing up in Florida as the eldest of five in a devout Christian family, my life was deeply rooted in the church. Baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit in my teens, I attended the church's private school until high school graduation in 2000. However, post-graduation, I drifted from the church and lived without serving God for 22 years. Despite this distance, my belief in God never waned. In 2009, I married, and we're blessed with two sons. My spiritual awakening began in 2023. Despite trying to manage a financial crisis on my own, it was an answered prayer that reignited my faith. Desperately needing a specific amount of money, I prayed for divine intervention after all attempts failed. Miraculously, a veteran organization unexpectedly granted me the exact amount I needed without repayment. This was no coincidence – it was a clear answer from God. This experience revitalized my faith. While I'm still discerning God's plan for me, I've chosen to use my media talents to serve Him. |
